Silver gilt campaign eating utensil set w/Corkscrew
Hallmarks are forThomas Johnson, London, 1862.

Lovely silver gilt eating utensil set consisting of a knife, fork, spoon and corkscrew with 3 silver gilt handles which fit into each other like Russian dolls. The corkscrew is a roundlet, but it also acts as a handle for one of the implements. The handles have an open end which the implement screws into. Two of the handles have a rounded threaded top to open up to store Handle for traveling.
Each silver piece is fully marked. TJ makers mark. The fork is also marked
JENNER & KNEWSTUE, 33 ST JAMES ST
(Steel knife blade is marked JENNER & CO.)
Jenner and Knewstub, the retailer whose name is on the case (See link that follows) were "known as engravers and publishers of crests of the highest order". Also, they catered to a very posh clientele: members of English and European royalty, among them Queen Victoria and Edward VII. This set may have belonged to someone of note.
