Ellis Collection - Goodyear 1851 USA Patent Roundlet
Lovely example of the earliest known US patent date marked on a corkscrew.
Nelson Goodyear’s Patent refers to the revolutionary process of vulcanising or hardening rubber.
The black roundlet is made of this new hardened rubber. It is lightly marked “Goodyear’s Patent 1851” on one half. The other half has a brass metal insert which holds the fluted worm, which folds and pushes inside. 8 cms.
See O’Leary – Corkscrews – page 32, Ellis & Ellis – Corkscrews page 71, Peters & Giulian – Pocket Corkscrews – page 121.
Condition – Very good, rubber case is good, metal insert moves, worm is intact.

Payment Details: |
Paypal, Bank Transfer or UK Check. Seller would appreciate if items over 500 pounds value could be paid by Bank Transfer and not Paypal. This is due to major problems experienced previously with Paypal, plus their very high fees. Bank details will be sent on request. |
